Deze plant dankt zijn naam aan zijn bizarre vorm, die sterk lijkt op die van een palmboom: een lange kale stam met daarboven een bosje bladeren. In de natuur wordt de boom tot 9 m hoog. De bladeren zijn ook vrij groot &#8211; tot 1 meter lang en 15 cm breed. De structuur is stijf, leerachtig, met gekartelde randen, groen, met geelachtige nerven. De vruchten zijn eivormig, groen-bruin met witte vlekken, ze worden tot 2,5 cm in doorsnee. De Ficus Pseudopalma komt veel voor als wilde plant op het eiland Luzon, en in andere landen wordt hij gekweekt als sierplant. Thuis kunnen jonge scheuten van deze ficus als groente in voedsel worden gebruikt, en de bladeren zijn zeer populair in de traditionele geneeskunde van de regio. Zo wordt een blad gebruikt om een medicijn tegen nierstenen te maken.
